March Meeting

Tuesday 18 March will be the date of the Society’s 20th anniversary lecture. We are delighted that Dr Kate Tiller – who gave the very first talk to the newly fledged group – will be back again, to share with us her knowledge of (19th century life.

Her topic this time will be Methodism in Oxfordshire.
Iffley was a firmly defended fortress of the Established Church of England – there is a reason why the Methodist Chapel  though founded by a man living in Iffley, was built just over the parish boundary, on a part of Rose Hill that was in Cowley.
Although there have been some modern additions to the original building, anyone going up Rose Hill towards the Ring Road has a good view of the original preaching house.

The old mile stone is not in original place - nor is the line of the road the same as when the chapel was built
